WOW, look at their ears! How do they get like that? Are they always like that?
Tiny Monster babies, at 1 week old, ears are already curling.
Their ears are courtesy of Mother Nature! A genetic mutation occurred creating this unique and eye catching breed of cats.
The breed was discovered in California in 1981. 2 stray kittens, one with odd shaped ears, arrived on the doorstep of Joe and Grace Ruga. Joe didn't want his wife to feed the kittens, but she did anyway. One of the kittens disappeared and the remaining black funny eared kitten quickly worked her way into the Ruga's hearts. They named her Shulamith, she is how this wonderful breed got it's start.
The process of getting these cats with the oddly-shaped earsrecognized as a breed began in 1983.
By 1986, American Curls were accepted by the CFA for registration and by 1993 they had made Championship Class.
